Handel, Hitler, and '300'

I just stumbled upon a very interesting essay written by Prof. Hamid Dabashi of Columbia University for the Egyptian paper Al-Ahram (actually, for their English-language weekly edition).

I'm sure many readers will have some very strong opinions about various of Dabashi's assertions--I myself have serious issues with his characterization of Hezbollah, for one--but I think that his essay might just make you listen to "Ombra mai fu" in a slightly different light.

ETA: Obviously, the Hitler reference above relates to a subject completely different than the Hitler record collection discovery so many other people have been discussing in the past few days...in my morning fog, I hadn't even considered the coincidence of timing. Make of it what you will.
