There is an active thrash metal scene in Bangladesh. (note to self: tell Steve this)
Calypso was a huge force in shaping contemporary Sri Lankan music. (A unfortunate and unfair Paul Bowles declaration was that the Sinhalese were the only people he ever encountered who seemed completely tone-deaf.)
There's a new documentary about female (mostly visual) artists--and the struggles they face, particularly in being mothers as well as artists--which I would now really like to see.
